What is Hemp and what are the benefits of Hemp Seed Oil for skin?
The next super plant! What it is, why we love it, and why more people need to use it
This latest super plant has been thrown into the spotlight for a number of reasons. People are eating it in different forms from powders, to whole seeds, to spreads. People are using it as a wellbeing supplement to help with an array of issues, in the form of drops or capsules. And now everyone is trying to get it on their skin! This amazing super plant is Hemp, also known as the Cannabis Sativa Plant.
Does Hemp Seed Oil have psychoactive properties?
Unfortunately, the amazing properties of Hemp Seeds have been slow on the uptake due the confusing connection to the Cannabis Sativa Plant that contains high levels of Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC – the stuff that gets you high and is currently illegal without a prescription in Australia). You may feel that you need to read that paragraph again, and you are right that both strains have the exact name, Cannabis Sativa! No wonder it is confusing.
The Hemp Seeds that we use in Australia for food, health and skincare are all from the Hemp Plant that contains less than 0.3% THC and is non psychoactive! We can only process the seeds of the plant, and the process of extraction is similar to that of olive oil. We will be writing more on the difference between Hemp Seed Oil, CBD and THC more in upcoming blogs so keep your eyes open!
Hemp and the environment
Hemp plants are eco friendly and amazing for the environment. This is because they are one of the fastest growing plants on earth. They absorb more carbon dioxide than most other plants, they nourish the soil instead of depleting it, and they require less water to thrive. So not just a super plant to use for our wellbeing but also a super plant for the environment.
No pesticides are used to grow Hemp which means there are no nasty toxins going into your food, capsules or skincare. You know that your product is not only plant based but free of the pesticides and toxins that can be used to grow some vegan and plant-based products. Hemp Seed are also grown in Australia meaning that we can keep jobs local and support our Aussie farmers.
Well now that we have cleared that up, and highlighted why we love it so much, lets talk about the benefits of Hemp Seed Oil for skin!
The benefits of Hemp Seed oil for skin!
Hemp Seed Oil is one of the most nourishing ingredients for your skin. And at the moment, one of the greatest nourishing and dehydrating ingredients in the world of skin care. However, not enough people know about it. Whilst still relatively new to usage in skin care, Hemp Seed Oil is fast becoming known as an incredibly beneficial oil due to its high levels of fatty acids. This gives it wonderful moisturising properties.
For The Face
Hemp Seed Oil wont clog your pores, which makes it suitable for all skin types including oily and acne prone skin. It allows skin to breathe while delivering very welcome doses of Vitamins A, D and E which your skin LOVES. These can help protect your skin from free radicals while keeping it healthy, clean and glowing.
Hemp Seed Oil is also a great source of Omega 6 (also known as GLA - Gamma Linolenic Acid) which is a vital ingredient in skin care. It has a positive multi effect of moisturising and nourishing the skin, while calming any inflammation and helping to reduce the signs of ageing. It also contains Omega 3 and Omega 9, and together they help to rebalance your skins natural oil levels, without being “oily”. Yes, oil based skincare helps balance your natural and healthy oil levels. Which helps to prevent acne and breakouts, while leaving your skin looking balanced, clean and healthy.

Oleic acid is also found in Hemp Seed Oil. Oleic acid is something that can’t be produced by your body, but as a natural component, it can help dry skin feel more hydrated, and it can also benefit sensitive or irritated skin.
Amazing! I need to shop The Face now!
For The Beard
If knowing how great Hemp Seed Oil is for the skin wasn’t enough, just WAIT until you hear how good it is for your beard!
Hemp Seed Oil is high in Vitamin E, which makes it a great natural conditioner for your skin and hair. As you rub it into your skin it increases blood circulation and it deeply penetrates the hair shaft giving it a smoother and healthier appearance. It helps prevent water loss and keeps more moisture in the beard, hair and skin, leaving you looking healthier, plumper and more nourished at every turn.
Hemp Seed Oil has also been suggested to stimulate hair growth by penetrating into the skin and hair easily. Not only does it assist with the growth, but it also provides intense nourishment while assisting in keratin production to promote thicker, stronger, and healthier hair.
This is just what I have been looking for! It’s time to shop The Beard.
