What are the benefits of using an Oil Cleanser
What are the benefits of using an oil cleanser?
Oil cleansers have many benefits including balancing your natural oil production and keeping your skin hydrated all while cleaning and cleansing the skin from daily toxins and pollutants. Hemp Oil cleansers have an additional bonus in that they are perfect for all skin types as Hemp Seed Oil is non-comedogenic meaning it won’t clog your pores.
There are so many choices of cleansers out there now it’s overwhelming. Cream based, gel based, oil based, foaming, non-foaming. All have benefits and are an important part of a daily skin care routine, but which is the best?
Well if you haven’t guessed already, here at Hemp Co we believe that oil-based cleansers, specifically our Hemp Seed Oil & Peppermint cleanser to be the best for all skin types. People can often be put off hearing that a cleanser, or any face product has oil in it, but what many of us don’t realise it that oily skin is often a result of overly dry skin.
It won’t dry out your skin
When our skin is too dry or we use hard cleansers that strip away our natural oils our body creates Sebum, which is an oily substance. When over produced, sebum can clog pores and create acne. So, we think we are doing the right thing when we start to break out by trying to strip away and get rid of the oil on our face. But by using more cleanser, but this tells our body and face to create more! Oh no!
The answer is to use a gentle oil-based cleanser that cleans the face and skin of daily pollutants and toxins, without stripping away the good stuff too. You will feel renewed and clean after using our fresh mint smelling cleanser but the natural oils from the Hemp Seed Oil will help protect and moisturise your skin, leaving it healthy and smooth.
It balances oil helping with acne
Not all oil cleaners are the same. A comedogenic rating is given to oils based on how much they can block your pores and are the scale goes from 0 to 5. We know that oils with a score even as low as 2 can clog your pores. However Hemp Seed Oil has a comedogenic rating of 0, meaning that Hemp Oil can penetrate your pores to clean within and then be washed off without blocking or clogging your pores post use.
If we are using products with a higher comedogenic rating and our pores become blocked, then we can over produce oil and break out in Acne. A result no one wants when they are trying to clear the skin.
In contrast Hemp Seed Oil with a 0 rating, won’t clog you’re your pores making it a safe product for nearly all skin types. And it is even beneficially and helpfully for those with oily skin to help balance the over production of oil. Though this sounds counterintuitive, using an oil-based cleanser helps to prevent your skin from producing excess oils while helping to keep it hydrated.
Oil cleansers can effectively remove makeup, daily dirt, toxins and pollutants while conditioning and hydrating the skin.
There are no synthetic foamers -
Foaming cleansers are generally water or micellar based liquids that pump out of the bottle into a foam. Foaming cleansers are great to gently exfoliate the skin while removing make up and other pollutants, however some people may be sensitive to the synthetic ingredients added to make the cleanser actually foam.
Have you ever used a foaming cleaner and felt your skin was left tight, itchy or red? This may have been due to strong synthetic chemicals or alcohol that have been used in the cream or foaming cleanser. They use these to help to remove make up and dirt, however they also strip the natural moisture from your skin, leaving your face dry, exposed and possibly even irritated.
As our Hemp Oil based cleanser isn’t a foaming cleanser there are no added synthetic ingredients that are harsh on the skin. Your skin should feel softer after use and even hydrated instead of dry and tight.
Gentle of sensitive skin
With plant-based and natural ingredients our oil-based cleanser is a gentle way to remove daily build up while soothing and healing skin.
It can remove make up and daily dirt and toxins softly and gentle. The oil binds to the toxins and bacteria and is gentle removed when you wash the cleanser off with warm water. No scrubbing and hard rubbing necessary, it does al the work for you.
How often should you use a cleanser?
We recommend only cleansing your skin once per day, preferably in the evening after a day in the elements and having absorbed daily toxins. Our oil-based cleanser will be perfect at removing any make up, dirt and grind from a long day, while hydrating your skin. We recommend using our Daily Moisturiser after the cleanser to help with keeping your skin glowing and soft.
We don’t believe you need to use the cleanser in the morning, simply apply your preferred SPF sunscreen and our moisturiser and you’re ready to go!

What if my skin gets worse after using an oil-based cleanser?
Your skin should feel clean, fresh and hydrated after using our Hemp and Peppermint Cleaner. However, when new to this cleaning routine sometimes skin can ‘purge’ it’s impurities and break outs can happen. This should last no longer than two weeks but create softer, brighter skin as the end result, after removing those deep nasty toxins that have been hiding in your skin. Your skin and confidence will thank you for it later. Your skin is our commitment.
